The Miraflores Visitor Center is the busiest of all tourist attractions in Panama. It offers a front-seat view of the Panama Canal. The center is located on the eastern side of the Miraflores locks and is just 15 minutes away from downtown. Hundreds of people visit every day.
Panama Viejo or Old Panama, is the site of ruins of the first settlement in Panama City. It was destroyed by the Pirate Henry Morgan in the late 1600’s. Morgan decided on Panama instead of Cartagena de Indias or Veracruz (which were also considered for pillaging) because of its riches as a commercial center between the oceans.

Canes Island represents for the conservationists a refuge for the sea species due to its enormous beaches where the marine turtles come to nest periodically and where scientists of the whole world take the opportunity to study them. 
The majestic Río Chagres has its source in the mountains rising east of the Panamanian capital, at 1,007 meters altitude. It has played an active role in developing the country as a services platform for global trade since colonial times. Currently it is a destination for ecotourism, ethnotourism, adventure sports and camping.
Panama provides tourists and residents with the opportunity to find higher elevation and enjoy a spring-like climate all year round in the many mountain towns throughout the republic. One such mountain destination is El Valle de Anton, located just over two hours outside of Panama City in the Cocle province.
