The Kuna Indians of San Blas must slow down tourism to preserve their islands and culture for future generations, according to Spanish anthropologist Xerardo Pereiro who has concluded a study of tourism’s impact on the archipelago. 

Barro Colorado Island (BCI) is located in the Gatun Lake in the middle of the Panama Canal in a 5,364 hectare area. Barro Colorado is made of the peninsulas Bohio, Buena Vista, Peña Blanca and Gigante.
